About Melanie
A confession right of the start – I just turned 40, so I don’t have a ton of experience with this “midlife” phase. However, I am well within the window of perimenopause and have started experiencing some changes related to the menopause transition. I also have a long list of friends who remember how sweet it was when the Sony Sports Walkman was first released. That counts right?
In all seriousness, I do understand how insidious and pervasive diet culture is, particularly as we go through the menopause transition. It tells us our changing bodies are wrong and makes us question ourselves. That we need to do everything we can to “stop the middle-aged spread” and if we must age, then it needs to be graceful.
Screw that.
Health is so much more than a number on the scale. And so is our worth.

Is this program covered by extended health benefits?
If your coverage includes a registered dietitian, yes. You will receive a receipt following each nutrition therapy session that you can submit to your insurer for reimbursement, based on your individual plan.
Will this program help me lose weight?
This program is intended to help you repair your relationship with food and get you thinking about health in a more holistic way, beyond just a number on the scale. It’s possible that your body weight may change as a result of your new approach to food and health, but I cannot predict whether or not your weight will change.
I’ve heard of Intuitive Eating, but don’t know that much about it. Can you tell me more?
Intuitive Eating is a self-care framework developed by two registered dietitians designed to help you heal your relationship with food. This approach is weight-inclusive, HAES-aligned, and has a validated assessment tool, along with a growing body of research demonstrating improved mental and physical health outcomes.
There are 10 Principles that teach you how to tune into your body’s physical cues and remove negative rules, thoughts, and beliefs, so you can honour your health and meet your body’s needs.
Research suggests that Intuitive Eaters have higher self-esteem, better body image, more satisfaction with life, and better coping skills. Some studies also associate Intuitive Eating with higher HDL cholesterol levels and lower triglyceride levels. We also see lower rates of emotional eating and lower rates of disordered eating behaviours among those who identify as Intuitive Eaters.
Who is this program open to?
This program is open to residents of British Columbia, Manitoba, and Saskatchewan. Due to the content that focuses on perimenopause, the program is best suited for women ages ~35-55.
